In late 2005, we were busy working with Valderrama 5 on our very last album ( working title was "Paranoil" but it was then released as "Guess Who's Bigamous" ).
Tensions in the band were huge and were just about to make the band implode.

Just to make things more complicated, I ( it's Carlos speaking ) decided to record some songs I had written some months before, in the same studio and with the same sound guy ( Olio, who is also our lead singer ) we were using to record with the band.

This probably slowed down a very long process even more, but I just felt this stuff had to be recorded.

Obviously most of the material doesn't sound like proper Valderrama 5 stuff ( even in Sweet Intostino and Palma became classic V5's signature songs across the years ) these songs instead had a weird and peculiar mediterranean-romantic-baroquepop vibe on it.

It was the sound of a broken heart, as I clearly remember listening to these bunch of songs and lyrics, the kind of desperate and ridiculous broken-heartness you have when you're 20yrs-some.

I had to be very quick ( since I was not paying the studio, and was interfering with the main recordings ) so I couldn't waste time teaching these songs to anybody, I just stepped into the studio and played all the instruments by myself, with Olio playing record button on the ADAT recording system,
It probably took 2 or 3 days to complete all the recordings.

This record was never properly released, nor printed.
But I still like it, it has a sparkle somehow.
Before I f**k up the hard disk with the old stuff in it, it though it's better if it stays here.

Siamo nei mesi finali del 2005, e stiamo cercando di completare le registrazioni del nuovo disco dei Valderrama 5 ( titolo di lavorazione "Paranoil" poi sarà pubblicato col titolo di "Guess Who's Bigamous" l'anno successivo ) che vanno avanti già da un bel pò .

Le tensioni all'interno della band sono notevoli e a breve porteranno all'implosione della band.

Per rendere le cose ancora più complesse di quanto non fossero, decisi di registrare UN ALTRO disco, di canzoni scritte nei mesi precedenti, con lo stesso fonico ( Olio, il nostro cantante peraltro ) e nello stesso studio dove stavamo registrando.

Questo probabilmente rallentò ulteriormente le cose, ma sentivo di dover fissare in qualche modo quel pugno di canzoni.

Come è evidente all'ascolto, questi pezzi che avevo nel cassetto non avevano molto a che fare con quello che era lo stile dei V5 ( nonostante questo, Sweet Intostino e Palma de Mallorca sono a tutti gli effetti dei nostri grandi classici negli anni a venire) ma avevano una vena abbastanza particolare e inusuale per i nostri standard, mediterranea, romantica e debitrice del baroque pop degli anni 60'.

Era soprattutto il suono di un cuore spezzato, come si può chiaramente evincere dai testi, quel tipo di desolazione romantica che puoi provare quando hai circa 20 anni.

Dovevo essere velocissimo ( tra l'altro, quasi non pagavo lo studio e stavo interferendo con un disco considerato molto più importante ) per cui non c'era il tempo materiale di insegnare queste canzoni agli altri membri del gruppo, registrai tutti gli strumenti da solo, mentre Olio premeva Record sul nostro sistema ADAT, e in 2 o forse 3 giorni il disco era finito.

Non fu mai stampato, nè conobbe mai un lancio ufficiale.
Ma a me continua a piacere, è un disco che ha una storia da raccontare.

Prima che scompaia definitivamente, con la rottura dell'hard disk dove ho conservato le vecchie registrazioni, ho pensato che forse è meglio se sta qui.
